48v 100ah lithium ion battery

8 months ago, I installed a 48v 100ah lithium ion battery in my garage to store excess energy from my rooftop solar panels. I was tired of watching the inverter send power back to the grid during the afternoon, only to buy electricity at a much higher rate after dinner.

The installation itself was easier than I expected, although getting the settings right took some patience. My installer connected the battery to a hybrid inverter and set it to charge from solar first, then discharge during my utility company’s peak period. I checked the monitoring app constantly during the first week. Seeing the battery climb to 100% by mid-afternoon and then carry the house through dinner was surprisingly satisfying.

The biggest difference has been on cloudy days and during peak-hour pricing. Before adding energy storage, my evening usage pushed my daily bill noticeably higher. Now the lithium battery usually runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, television, and a few kitchen appliances from around 4 p.m. until bedtime. My average daily grid usage has dropped by roughly 8 to 12 kilowatt-hours, depending on the weather. That has cut my monthly bill by about 30 percent, though the exact savings vary with the season.

I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging one evening even though the app showed plenty of charge remaining. I eventually found that the inverter had switched to backup-only mode after a brief grid flicker. A quick settings change restored normal operation, and I have not had the problem again.

What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic operation. I do not have to remember to switch anything manually. The solar battery charges during the day, avoids expensive peak electricity, and leaves some reserve for outages. I am considering expanding the system later, but for now this 48V battery has made my solar setup much more useful in everyday life.
