Solution Solar Inverter
2 summers ago, I added a home battery to our rooftop solar system, mostly because our utility’s evening rates had become painful. The biggest change has been how calmly I get through dinner and the hours afterward. Before, the panels stopped producing just as we turned on the oven, dishwasher, and lights, so we leaned on grid power at the expensive time of day. Now the battery charges from midday surplus and carries most of our evening load.
I noticed the difference first on the monthly bill, not from some dramatic overnight transformation but from a steady drop in peak-hour imports. Our bill varies with weather and usage, but on sunny weeks we now buy much less electricity after sunset. I can see the battery discharging on the app while dinner cooks, and that has made the savings feel tangible rather than theoretical. I still charge the car when solar is available and avoid running every appliance at once; the battery is a buffer, not magic.
My one small annoyance came during a cloudy stretch when I expected the reserve to last until morning. I had left the backup setting higher than needed, which meant the battery held charge instead of covering our usual evening use. I checked the settings, lowered the reserve a little, and watched it work normally the next day. Nothing was broken; I simply hadn’t understood how backup reserve and self-consumption priorities interacted. The app’s energy-flow screen made that easy to spot, and I now check it when the forecast looks poor.
I also keep the installer paperwork handy; the system reference printed there is 421912259, which saved me a few minutes when I called with a question about the monitoring page. Overall, I like that our solar battery makes ordinary evenings cheaper without requiring much attention.
