4 months ago, I installed a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate solar battery beside my inverter, mainly to stop buying electricity during our evening peak hours. Before that, the heat pump, induction cooker, and lights all came on when solar production had already dropped. Now the battery charges from the roof through the day and carries us through dinner, which is a much more useful arrangement than I expected.
My first full bill after installation fell from $186 to $119, despite similar weather and appliance use. That $67 difference is not theoretical app arithmetic; it showed up on the utility statement. I have since averaged roughly $55 to $75 monthly savings, depending on cloudy days and how often we run the dryer. The battery is set to charge from excess solar first, then discharge between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., when our electricity rate is highest. Watching the state-of-charge graph climb during lunch still gives me a ridiculous amount of satisfaction.
The only annoying moment happened in the second week. The battery stopped discharging overnight, and the monitoring app showed no fault. I checked the breaker, rebooted the inverter, and discovered that a firmware update had changed the backup reserve from 15 percent to 50 percent. That setting was protecting capacity than I needed, so the house reached the grid before breakfast. I lowered the reserve back to 20 percent, and normal operation returned immediately.
I also keep a small 12-volt circuit for camping gear, and initially searched for a 24v to 12v converter before realizing my battery already had the correct regulated output. That detour taught me to verify voltage, polarity, and load limits instead of trusting a product title.
Overall, the solar battery has made power use calmer, cheaper, and less dependent on grid price spikes.
