Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
220v single phase to 3 phase converter was the oddest part of my solar battery project. I expected the lithium iron phosphate battery itself to be complicated, but getting it to play nicely with my older three-phase workshop supply took more thought than the sales brochure suggested. My home is otherwise fairly ordinary: rooftop solar, a hybrid inverter, and a 10-kWh battery mounted in the garage. The installer was careful, labeling every cable and showing me how the battery backup and monitoring app worked.
We programmed it to charge from sunlight first, then discharge between 4 and 9 p.m., when my utility rate is highest. That schedule has made the biggest difference to my monthly bill. Before storage, I regularly watched the meter race upward after dinner: cooking, laundry, and the heat pump all running together. During the first full month, my evening grid consumption dropped dramatically, and the bill fell from about $186 to $112, despite similar weather. It is not a perfect saving every month, because cloudy weeks leave less solar energy for charging, but the battery usually carries our evening load until bedtime. I especially like seeing the app show solar generation, household consumption, battery state of charge, and grid import on one screen.
My only real hiccup happened during a storm. The system switched to backup power, but the battery stopped at 62 percent and flashed a communication warning. I power-cycled the inverter as instructed, checked the network connection, and called support. They found a loose communications plug, not a failed battery. Since reseating it, the backup has behaved normally, keeping the refrigerator, internet, lights, and a few outlets running without drama. I still avoid running the electric dryer during an outage; battery capacity is useful, not magic. Overall, this solar-plus-storage setup has reduced peak-hour costs, added practical outage protection, and made my rooftop solar feel much more useful.
