Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Night time was the first evening I really noticed what my solar battery was doing for us. After the panels stopped producing, the house didn't immediately start pulling expensive grid power. The battery inverter quietly took over, and that small change has made the biggest difference to our electricity bill.
Before storage, we sent a lot of midday solar energy back to the grid and then bought it back during the 6-9pm peak period. Now I set the battery to charge from solar and discharge after dinner. On an ordinary weekday, the battery covers our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and heat pump until we go to bed. Our evening grid use has fallen dramatically, and my monthly bill is usually about 25 to 35% lower than it was last year, despite higher rates.
The most useful feature is the app. I can see solar production, battery state of charge, and household consumption without walking to the garage. It also shows when the inverter switches to grid power. That has helped me adjust habits: I run the dishwasher and washing machine around lunchtime, when the panels are making energy, rather than asking the battery to do everything later.
I did have one minor scare. During a particularly cold morning, the monitoring app showed the battery at zero and gave a communication warning. I checked the breaker, restarted the gateway, and the system came back within a few minutes. It turned out to be a temporary Wi-Fi drop, not a failed battery. Since then, I keep the inverter and router on a small backup plug, which feels like cheap insurance.
I even labelled the storage cabinet with “engwe fietstas” so my family would not stack bags against the air vents. It is an odd little label, but it works. It keeps everyone mindful daily.
