1500 watt inverter

5 months ago I installed a home solar battery after watching my electric bills climb every summer. The system includes a 1500 watt inverter and a modest lithium battery mounted in my garage. I chose it mainly to shift daytime solar production into the evening, rather than send everything back to the grid. Setup was less intimidating than expected. My installer handled the wiring, but I had to create a separate circuit for the refrigerator, internet equipment, and a few lights. That small bit of planning has made the battery feel useful during outages, not just a bill-reducing gadget.

Before installation, my summer bills often reached about $180. Now, on sunny days, my panels fill the battery by mid-afternoon. After 4 p.m., the house runs from stored power until around 9 p.m., when rates drop. That habit has cut my monthly bill to roughly $105, although weather and utility charges vary. The biggest difference is avoiding peak pricing for cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and doing laundry. I used to postpone those chores or accept the expensive rate. Now I rarely think about it.

The one hiccup happened during a cloudy week. The battery reached its reserve setting earlier than expected, and I assumed something was broken. I checked the monitoring app and found the problem was my own setting: I had accidentally left the backup reserve at 40 percent. Lowering it to 20 percent gave me several more usable kilowatt-hours, while still keeping emergency capacity. I also learned that the inverter fan is audible when the battery is charging hard, but it is quiet overnight.

For me, the practical win is predictable evening power and a smaller bill without changing family routines. I check the battery state of charge weekly and leave the rest alone mostly at home.
