Solution Solar Battery -
Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
2:30 a.m. power outage last winter convinced me to stop treating my rooftop solar panels as the whole solution. I added a 10-kWh lithium solar battery to our garage, and the difference has been most noticeable after sunset.
On bright days, the panels usually fill it before lunch. Rather than sending every extra kilowatt-hour to the grid for a modest credit, the battery stores it. Our inverter then runs the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and sometimes the induction cooktop through the evening. Before installation, our usage climbed into the expensive peak period around dinner. Now, we routinely reach bedtime with 35–45% remaining.
That shift has made the biggest difference to my electricity bill. My utility charges more from 4–9 p.m., so I programmed the battery to discharge then and recharge only from solar the next day. Across the last three billing cycles, our bill fell from roughly $185 to $112, even though our household habits stayed about the same. Savings vary with cloudy weather, but the battery has paid back more reliably than I expected.
Setup was less intimidating than I expected. The installer mounted the battery beside the existing inverter, added a backup subpanel, and spent most of the afternoon testing transfer times. I did ask whether a small 12v inverter for car could somehow substitute for this equipment; it cannot safely power household circuits, and I am glad I learned that before experimenting.
My only real hiccup came during the first storm. The battery stopped discharging at 62%, although the app showed normal operation. I called support, and they had me check the backup breaker and restart the inverter controller. It resumed within minutes; apparently the breaker had tripped during a brief grid flicker. Since then, I have had two outages with seamless backup.
I especially like seeing real-time battery state-of-charge and solar production in the monitoring app, because it helps me adjust laundry and dishwasher timing without much effort at home. This is not a flashy gadget purchase; it is a practical solar storage upgrade that makes our home quieter financially and more resilient.
