0ne year ago, I installed a 100 amp hour battery lithium unit beside my inverter after getting tired of watching my evening electricity use push the bill higher. The setup was fairly simple: the installer mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to my solar panels and hybrid inverter, and programmed it to charge during the afternoon and discharge during our utility’s peak period.
The difference is most noticeable between 4 and 9 p.m. Before the battery, cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and using the heat pump all pulled expensive grid power. Now the battery usually carries those loads. On a sunny day, it reaches full charge by mid-afternoon, and I often see the inverter reporting only a small amount of grid consumption after sunset. My monthly bill has fallen by roughly $45 to $70, depending on weather and how much air conditioning we use. It is not complete energy independence, but the peak-hour savings are real and easy to see.
I also appreciate the lithium battery’s usable capacity. With my older lead-acid backup, I avoided draining it deeply, so the advertised capacity never felt available. This solar battery gives me much more practical storage without taking over the garage. The battery management system has been quiet, and the app makes it easy to check state of charge, solar production, and household load.
One minor annoyance happened during a firmware update. The monitoring app stopped showing battery data for several hours, although the system continued charging and discharging normally. Restarting the inverter and reinstalling the app fixed it.
My advice is to size storage around evening loads rather than chasing the biggest battery. For my home, this 100 amp hour battery lithium setup has been a practical way to use more of my solar energy and reduce grid usage.
