Using my rooftop solar system with a xuba 280ah battery has changed the way I use electricity after sunset. Before adding storage, my panels exported most of their afternoon production, while I bought power back during the expensive evening hours. That was especially annoying in summer, when the air conditioner ran after dinner. I chose it for evening peak-hour savings.
The biggest practical difference appears on my electricity bill. I now charge the battery from excess solar during the day and use that stored energy from roughly 4 p.m. until bedtime. On sunny days, this usually covers the refrigerator, lights, router, television, and part of the heat pump. My evening grid consumption has dropped noticeably; over three recent months, my utility bills averaged about $45 lower than the same period last year. That number varies with weather and rates, but the peak-hour savings are real and easy to see in the monitoring app.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the inverter stopped pulling from the battery at night, even though the app showed plenty of stored capacity. I power-cycled the inverter, checked the backup reserve setting, and waited a few minutes before reconnecting it. The discharge schedule returned to normal the next evening. Support replied the following morning, which reassured me, although I wish the app had explained the error more clearly.
I am not claiming this battery eliminated my power bill. Winter clouds still mean grid electricity, and I keep a reserve for outages. Still, having usable solar storage every night makes the system feel practical, not just impressive on paper. For my home, the xuba 280ah setup has been most valuable as a quiet way to shift energy away from expensive peak hours and use more of what my solar panels already produce.
