Solution Solar Battery
I installed a home battery last spring, mostly because our electricity bill jumped whenever the washing machine, oven, and heat pump ran together after work. Before that, my rooftop solar panels exported a lot of midday power and bought it back at an unpleasantly high evening rate. The battery storage system has changed that routine more than I expected.
On sunny days, the inverter charges the lithium battery by early afternoon. Once the state of charge reaches my limit, the panels still send surplus to the grid, but usually we have enough stored energy for dinner, laundry, and the first part of the evening. I set the battery to discharge during our utility’s peak window. That small scheduling choice is where I notice the savings: our monthly bill has dropped by roughly $45–$70, depending on weather and how often we use the heat pump. It is not a dramatic overnight miracle, but seeing less grid electricity on the bill feels real.
During a storm, I searched “wie lange h” to check how long the battery should last. I initially thought the solar battery had failed when it stopped discharging at 18%. The app showed “reserve protection,” though, meaning it had held that charge as backup because the forecast predicted outages. I lowered the backup reserve temporarily, and discharge resumed immediately. That was a useful reminder that it was a setting, not a hardware problem. Now I keep a 25% reserve for normal days and raise it before severe weather.
I still check the monitoring app occasionally to confirm charging and discharging look normal. After six months, the system has become background equipment that does its job.
