Nearly six months ago, I added a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery to my rooftop solar system, mainly to avoid buying expensive electricity after sunset. Before the battery, my panels exported a lot of power during the afternoon, then I pulled electricity from the grid between 5 and 9 p.m. That felt wasteful, especially while cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and charging our two electric bikes.
