Using my solar battery after sunset has changed the way I think about our electricity bill. Before installing the system, our evening usage was the expensive part of the day: cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and charging devices during peak hours. Now, the battery stores excess solar power produced during the afternoon and supplies our home after the panels stop generating.
I chose a sunmart battery system mainly because I wanted something practical rather than complicated. The installation took most of a day, including the inverter, backup wiring, and monitoring setup. The app was useful from the first evening because I could see solar generation, battery charge, household consumption, and grid import in real time. Watching the battery cover our evening load was surprisingly satisfying.
The biggest difference has shown up on our monthly bill. We are not completely off-grid, but our peak-hour electricity use has dropped sharply. On a sunny day, the battery usually reaches full charge by mid-afternoon. It then powers the refrigerator, lights, television, and kitchen appliances through the evening. During the hottest months, our air conditioner can still drain it before morning, but we import far less electricity than we used to. Our bill has generally fallen by around 35 to 45 percent, depending on weather and how much we run the air conditioning.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a software update, the battery stopped discharging overnight even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the operating schedule and found that a backup reserve setting had accidentally been raised to 80 percent. Once I lowered it to 25 percent, the battery worked normally again. That small issue reminded me that solar storage is not entirely “set and forget,” but it has been straightforward to manage.
For me, the real benefit is predictable evening power and lower peak-rate costs. The system has made our solar investment feel useful beyond daylight hours.
