Solution Solar Battery
Powering our home with a solar battery has changed the way I think about electricity bills. Before installing it, our solar panels produced plenty of energy during the afternoon, but we sent much of that surplus back to the grid and bought power again after sunset. I chose a 10 kWh LiFePO4 battery because I wanted something practical, safe, and large enough to cover our evening routine without turning the garage into a complicated power room.
The installation was easier than I expected. My installer mounted the inverter and battery on the garage wall, connected the solar battery system to the existing panels, and set the battery management system to prioritize self-consumption. The app took a day or two to make sense, but now I mostly check two figures: state of charge and grid import. I also specifically asked about a sph5000 compatible LiFePO4 Battery during planning, since compatibility with the inverter mattered more to me than chasing the biggest capacity.
The most noticeable difference comes between late afternoon and evening, when our utility charges its higher time-of-use rate. On a typical sunny day, the panels fill the battery before dinner. Once the rates rise, the battery supplies the refrigerator, lights, router, television, and dishwasher instead of letting those loads pull from the grid. Our monthly bill fell from roughly $180 to between $85 and $105, depending on weather and heating use. I am not claiming the battery eliminated the bill; winter cloudy weeks still hurt, and our heat pump is simply too demanding to run from stored energy all night. Still, avoiding those expensive evening kilowatt-hours has made the return feel tangible. I can see the discharge curve in the monitoring app, and it usually covers five or six hours of normal household use. It matters to our family.
