Over the past six months, my solax x1 hybrid system has changed how I use electricity at home. I installed it alongside a 10kWh solar battery after getting tired of watching my evening power bill jump even though the panels produced plenty during the day.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. A local installer mounted the inverter in the garage and connected the battery to my existing rooftop solar array. They configured the solax x1 hybrid to prioritize household loads, then charge the battery with surplus solar. That simple setting has been the biggest practical win for me.
On sunny days, my battery is usually full by early afternoon. Instead of sending cheap solar energy straight back to the grid, it sits there until dinner. By around 6:00 p.m., when cooking, running the dishwasher, and charging two phones, the house switches to stored power. I can see the change in the monitoring app, which shows battery discharge rather than grid import.
This has cut my peak-hour usage noticeably. My monthly bill used to average about $190; over the last three months it has been closer to $95, despite similar weather and a slightly higher electricity rate. That is roughly $95 saved each month, though I am not pretending every month is perfect. Cloudy stretches leave the battery partly charged, and winter production will obviously be lower.
One small troubleshooting moment made me appreciate having a readable battery monitor. One morning I noticed the battery was not charging even though the panels were producing. I checked the app and found an overnight grid outage had reset the inverter into standby mode. A full shutdown and restart did nothing, but switching the backup setting off and on brought charging back within minutes. I avoided a service call and resumed use.
