Owning a solar battery changed the way I use power at home. Before installation, my solar panels sent most of their afternoon energy straight to the grid. That felt especially wasteful in Montenegro, where our bright days often made the panels produce well after lunch, but our household was mostly empty.

I chose a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with a hybrid inverter. The installer finished in one day, and the app was simple enough to show solar generation, battery state of charge, and grid use without making me feel like I needed an engineering degree.

I set the battery to charge from solar during the day and cover our evening peak. That single change has been the most noticeable saving. We run the dishwasher, water heater, and air conditioner after sunset, yet we buy far less expensive electricity from the grid. My monthly bill fell from about €120 in summer to roughly €45. It isn't a perfect comparison because weather and habits change, but the difference is obvious on the utility statement.

One small troubleshooting moment came during a hot week. The battery stopped discharging at about 30% and the app showed a backup reserve warning. I had accidentally raised the reserve setting while exploring menus. Lowering it back to 15% solved the problem immediately. I appreciated that the system failed safely rather than leaving us without backup power.

After six months, the battery still holds its charge as expected. During brief outages, the lights, router, and refrigerator keep running, although I don't try to run the oven on backup. That practical limit matters: battery storage is not magic, and large loads can drain it quickly. Still, for my home, solar-plus-storage has made evening electricity feel more predictable. I check the battery occasionally and use more of my own solar power.
