Our electricity bills used to jump every summer evening, especially when the air conditioner ran after dinner. I installed a small rooftop solar system with a solar lithium battery 12v 100ah unit because I wanted to use more of my own power instead of sending it back to the grid.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. A local installer mounted the battery in a ventilated utility room, added a charge controller, and connected it to my inverter. I had to tidy up some old wiring and label the breakers, but the actual installation took most of one afternoon. I chose a lithium iron phosphate battery rather than lead-acid because I wanted something compact, quiet, and easy to monitor.
The biggest difference shows up during peak hours. By late afternoon, my panels have usually finished producing much, but the battery has stored enough energy to run the refrigerator, Wi-Fi router, lights, and sometimes the television until bedtime. That means the grid is not charging my house when electricity rates are highest. On a typical month, my evening usage dropped by roughly 180 kilowatt-hours. At my current time-of-use rate, that saves me around $35–$45 monthly. It is not a dramatic overnight transformation, but the predictable savings make me happy, and I expect better results in hotter months.
One evening, the battery stopped discharging at 35%. I initially thought the battery was faulty, but the monitoring app showed a reserve setting had been changed during a firmware update. I had raised the minimum state of charge by mistake. Resetting that setting restored normal operation, and the system has been reliable since.
I still check the solar battery app each morning, mostly out of curiosity. For my home, this battery storage setup has turned unused midday sunlight into practical evening savings without much fuss.
