After six months of using my home solar battery, I finally stopped checking the utility app every evening to see whether I had accidentally spent money during peak hours. On sunny days, my rooftop solar panels charge the battery to 100% by midafternoon. My bill is lower, and I notice less anxiety when rates jump unexpectedly.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. One morning the app showed “standby” while the battery sat at 62%. I power-cycled the communications gateway, checked the breaker, and discovered our Wi-Fi router had restarted overnight. Once it reconnected, the battery resumed normal operation; no technician visit was needed. I now keep the inverter manual and gateway login details printed in a drawer.
For anyone comparing systems, I would pay attention to usable capacity rather than just the advertised kilowatt-hours. I chose two 5-kWh units as parallel lifepo4 batteries, which gives me 10 kWh nominal storage. The modular setup also makes future expansion less intimidating if needed someday.
