Moving into our house, I wanted solar battery storage to stop buying electricity from the grid after sunset. We already had rooftop solar, but the panels stopped helping right when our family started cooking, running the dishwasher, and charging phones.
The setup was straightforward. The installer mounted a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery beside the garage and connected it to an omega inverter. I spent the evening watching the monitoring app, checking whether it was charging from the roof. It was. After a sunny day, the battery reached 100% before dinner and then supplied the house overnight.
The biggest practical change showed up on my electricity bill. Before storage, our evening usage pushed us into expensive peak hours. In the first month with the battery, our bill fell from about $186 to $121, even though our household use was similar. It is not a life-changing fortune, but saving roughly $65 per month feels worthwhile, especially because the battery is doing something useful every night.
On weekends, I shift laundry and dishwashing into daylight, leaving more stored solar for dinner and making expensive hours especially cheap.
I did have one scare during a cloudy week. The app showed the battery at 6% and wouldn't discharge to the house. I found the backup reserve had accidentally been set to 20% during commissioning. After changing that setting and restarting the inverter, the system worked normally again. Support answered my message the next morning, which was reassuring, but I was glad the battery still kept the lights on overnight.
Now I mostly forget about it. The energy management system charges from solar during the day and covers our evening load automatically. For me, that quiet routine is the real win: less grid dependence and a much smaller peak-hour bill without changing how we live.
