Solution Solar Inverter
Early this year I installed a 10 kWh home battery beside my rooftop solar system, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity. The setup was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the LiFePO4 battery in the garage, connected it to a hybrid inverter, and spent an afternoon checking charge settings and backup circuits. I was nervous about noise, but the unit is almost silent unless I stand next to it.
The biggest difference shows up between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Before storage, our solar panels exported power during the afternoon, then we paid the highest rate while cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and charging our plug-in car. Now the battery stores the excess solar energy and releases it after sunset. On sunny days, my evening grid usage has dropped by roughly 8 to 10 kWh. Our monthly bill fell from around $190 to $105, although weather and utility rates change that figure.
I chose a meritsun lifepo4 battery after comparing cycle life, usable capacity, warranty terms, and online feedback. I did not want a battery that needed babysitting, and this one has been straightforward. The monitoring app shows state of charge, solar production, household consumption, and grid import in a way I can understand. I usually leave it in self-consumption mode and let the system handle the decisions.
One small issue appeared during the first cold week: the battery refused to charge early in the morning. I initially thought it had failed, but the low-temperature protection was working as designed. Once the garage warmed up, charging resumed normally. That moment actually increased my confidence in the battery management system. After three months, the practical benefit is simple: more of my own solar power is used at home, peak-hour purchases are smaller, and power cuts no longer feel disruptive.
