2 years ago, I installed a 10 kWh LiFePO4 solar battery beside my garage. My main reason was simple: evening utility rates became painfully high after sunset at home.
During daylight, the panels run appliances while the battery quietly stores extra electricity for later. At five o'clock, the inverter switches automatically, and my house starts using stored solar power.
That timing changed my bill more than I expected, especially during hot summer air-conditioning months. Before installation, we averaged roughly $180 monthly; afterward, typical bills landed between $65 and $85.
Those savings are not theoretical: I can see battery discharge clearly on the monitoring app. I also keep a 120 to 12 volt converter for camping lights and emergency charging.
It is separate from the inverter, but the solar battery makes that backup setup useful. One evening, the battery stopped discharging at 28 percent, even though the app showed connections.
I checked the breaker first, then discovered a loose communications cable behind the inverter panel. After reseating it, the system resumed within minutes, and no expensive service visit was necessary.
That scare taught me to inspect connections before blaming software, firmware, or the battery itself. I reserve storage for evenings, while daytime solar handles laundry, cooking, and water heating well.
During outages, I switch off nonessential circuits and battery keeps refrigerator, router, and lights running. I have never tested a full overnight outage, but that limited backup feels reassuring enough.
The biggest practical lesson is sizing: my battery covers evening demand, not all-night electric heating. I clean panel surfaces occasionally, but the battery itself has required almost no attention yet.
For me, the combination of solar panels, battery storage, and time-of-use scheduling delivers predictable savings. It has not eliminated my electric bill but it has made energy costs steadier, easier.
