After six months with my home solar battery, the biggest change has been how little attention I pay to peak-hour electricity rates. Before installing it, my evening routine was expensive: cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and charging devices between 5 and 9 p.m. regularly pushed our household into the highest-priced period. Now the battery stores excess solar power during the afternoon and automatically supplies the house after sunset.
On a typical sunny day, my 10 kWh energy storage system reaches full charge by about 2:30 p.m. I usually see it discharge until midnight, depending on whether we use the heat pump or air conditioning. Our utility bill has fallen by roughly $65 to $90 per month, although the exact saving depends on weather and seasonal rates. The best part is that the savings feel practical rather than theoretical. I found that a software update had reset the time-of-use schedule. After restoring the schedule and restarting the inverter, everything worked normally. Since then, I check the app once a week, mainly to confirm the solar panels, inverter, and battery are communicating properly.
The installation was not as dramatic as I expected, but the wiring and electrical inspection took most of a day.
