I installed a litokala lithium battery storage system beside my inverter last spring, mostly because our evening electricity use was getting expensive. The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. My electrician mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to my existing solar inverter, and set the backup reserve to twenty percent.
At first, I watched the monitoring app obsessively. Each sunny afternoon, the panels filled the battery by about three o’clock. Then the battery carried our refrigerator, Wi-Fi router, lights, and kitchen appliances through the evening instead of pulling from the grid.
The real difference showed up on my first full bill. Before storage, our household routinely used grid power between five and nine p.m., those costly peak hours. After installation, the battery discharged steadily during that window, and the utility statement dropped by roughly thirty-five percent, even though the weather was similar.
That saving works out to around forty-five dollars a month for me. Not every month is identical. In cloudy December, I sometimes finish the day with only half a charge and buy a little power overnight, but the battery still shifts most of our consumption away from the highest rate.
One minor troubleshooting moment happened in July, when the app showed zero percent even though the battery was clearly running. I switched off the inverter for five minutes, checked the communication cable, and restarted it. The state-of-charge reading returned immediately, and the system resumed charging. I have not seen the error since.
What I appreciate most is the quiet routine. Solar power charges it automatically, and the energy storage handles dinner, laundry, and television without input from me. When the grid went out during a storm, the lights stayed on. For us, that reliability matters as much as the savings. So far, the system feels practical enough.
