Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
I installed my home solar battery last spring to stop buying expensive electricity after sunset. My rooftop panels already covered most daytime use, but our utility’s peak rates made evenings painful. The battery changed that routine immediately.
On sunny days, the inverter fills the lithium-ion battery by midafternoon. I set it to hold power until 4 p.m., then it runs the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and television while dinner cooks. I no longer watch the meter climb when everyone gets home. On cloudy days, it still covers a useful part of the evening, though I reserve some charge for outages.
My first full bill after installation was about 38% lower than the same month the year before, even though we used the air conditioner more. The biggest difference came on weekdays, when stored solar energy carried us through the utility’s peak window. I usually save $4–$7 each weekday, or roughly $85–$110 monthly. The app is useful, but I trust the bill more than its estimates.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time and sat at 100% while the house pulled grid power. I rebooted the inverter, checked the time zone in the app, and contacted the installer. They sent a configuration fix, and normal operation returned that evening. It has worked normally since.
The 10-kWh capacity is not magic: several rainy days can drain it, and I still keep grid power available. I also learned that usable energy falls below the headline number after inverter losses. Still, my solar self-consumption is much higher, and backup power gives me peace of mind during storms.
I searched “lithium ion battery price 12v” before buying. The larger solar battery saves money and handles outages without needing constant attention during normal daily use.
