I installed a 10 kWh LiFePO4 battery beside my inverter last spring, mainly to stop buying electricity during the expensive evening peak. My setup is fairly ordinary: eight rooftop solar panels, a hybrid inverter, and a wall-mounted battery with a phone monitoring app. Before this, I was sending plenty of midday solar back to the grid and then paying for power after dinner.
The battery changed that routine immediately. On sunny days, the panels usually fill it by mid-afternoon, and the inverter automatically switches to battery power when my utility rate climbs. That sounds simple, but the bill difference has been noticeable. My highest-use hours used to add roughly $2–$3 every weekday; now that portion is commonly under fifty cents, depending on weather and how much cooking we do. Over the first four full months, my average monthly bill fell from about $145 to $88.
I was especially impressed by how quietly the lifepo4 4s 12v battery chemistry operates. There is no smell, no watering, and the cooling fan rarely runs at night. I set a reserve of twenty percent, so the system does not completely drain during a cloudy stretch.
My only small hiccup happened during a heatwave. The app showed the battery at 100%, while the inverter reported it was still charging. I turned off the solar breaker for thirty seconds, restarted the inverter, and checked the cable connections. The readings matched after that, and support later explained that a firmware update had caused the confusing display. Since then I have left the settings alone, and it has been stable.
