I installed a 10kWh solar battery last spring after getting tired of watching my electricity bill jump every evening. The unit uses a lithium deep battery 320ah bank, paired with my solar panels and a hybrid inverter. I chose it for evening use, not because I wanted to go completely off-grid. That distinction has made the experience feel much more realistic.
Before the battery, my panels produced plenty at lunchtime, but I still bought expensive grid power between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. Now the battery charges during the day and carries our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, television, and lights through the evening. On sunny days, I usually reach bedtime with 20–30% remaining. During cloudy weather, I leave the grid connected and let the inverter blend sources instead of draining everything. That change has made the system less stressful.
The biggest difference is my peak-hour bill. My utility charges more after 4:00 p.m., so I set the battery to discharge then. My bill fell from $180 to $75 in summer, although that number depends on weather and air-conditioning use. I am not pretending the battery paid for itself, but the savings are noticeable. I also like seeing solar self-consumption rise instead of sending unused midday energy back to the grid for a modest credit.
I did have one troubleshooting moment in July. The battery stopped discharging after a firmware update, even though the monitoring app showed a healthy charge level. I restarted the inverter and checked the communication cable, but the fix was enabling the time-of-use schedule again. Since then it has worked normally. I check the app once or twice a week, mostly to watch for unusual temperatures or a drop in capacity. For my home, the battery has been a quiet, practical way to use more of my solar power and reduce peak grid dependence.
