I installed a 10 kWh home battery last spring, mainly because my electricity bill jumped whenever we cooked dinner after sunset. My rooftop solar panels produce plenty during the day, but without storage I was sending much of that energy back to the grid cheaply and buying it back during expensive evening hours.
The installer recommended a lithium iron phosphate battery built with lifepo4 prizmatik hücre modules. I chose it less for impressive app graphs and more for the promised cycle life, indoor-safe chemistry, and reasonable warranty. The installation itself took most of a day. They mounted the battery beside my inverter, added a backup gateway, and configured the energy management system to charge from solar first.
The first month was when I noticed the difference. On sunny days the battery usually reaches 100 percent by early afternoon. Instead of exporting everything remaining from my panels, it holds that energy until the household load rises. Our dishwasher and heat-pump water heater run after dinner, while the battery covers lights, refrigerator, router, and most of our cooking. That simple shift has cut my peak-hour grid consumption dramatically.
Before the battery, my monthly bill averaged about $210 in winter and around $145 in spring. Last spring, despite similar weather, it fell to roughly $82. That is not pure battery savings—utility rates changed slightly and we became more careful with usage—but I estimate the storage is saving me $40 to $55 per month during the high tariff period. I especially like watching the battery discharge between 5 and 9 pm, when power costs the most.
One minor issue appeared during a cloudy week: the battery stopped discharging at 30 percent. The app showed backup reserve mode enabled after an update. I lowered it, restarted the inverter, and normal operation returned quickly.
