Solution Solar Inverter
I installed a 10kWh LiFePO4 battery beside my inverter last spring, using a pack advertised as “lifepo4 280ah grad a.” I was less interested in having impressive specifications than in lowering the evening electricity charges I disliked.
My house has rooftop solar, but before the battery, the system exported plenty of power around lunchtime and then pulled expensive electricity from the grid between 5 and 9 p.m. The battery changed that routine immediately. On sunny days, solar power now runs the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and washing machine first, fills the battery afterward, and the stored energy carries us through dinner, lights, and the heat-pump water heater. I set the inverter to stop discharging at 20 percent, so there is still a reserve overnight.
The difference on my bill has been practical rather than dramatic. My average monthly grid usage dropped from roughly 420 kWh to about 250 kWh. Depending on the season, that saves me around $35 to $60 each month because I am avoiding the peak tariff. The biggest benefit is not watching the battery app constantly; it is seeing fewer expensive evening kilowatt-hours without changing how my family lives.
I did have one small scare during the first month. The battery stopped discharging at sunset, even though the screen showed 78 percent charge. After checking the settings, I found that the inverter had switched into backup-only mode after a grid flicker. I returned it to time-of-use mode, rebooted the inverter, and normal operation resumed. Since then, I have enabled notifications and written down the settings instead of relying on memory.
After several months, the lithium battery remains quiet, cool, and predictable. For me, the value of solar energy storage is simple: more of my solar power is used at home, and less of my evening budget goes to the utility.
