Solution Solar Inverter -
Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
I installed a 10-kWh lifepo lithium battery beside my garage last spring, mainly because evening electricity rates had become painful. I already had rooftop solar, but by five o’clock the panels were producing very little, exactly when our household started cooking, running the dishwasher, and charging phones. The battery changed that routine more than I expected.
On sunny days, the inverter sends excess solar power into the battery instead of exporting everything to the grid. After sunset, my hybrid inverter automatically supplies the house from stored energy. I set it to reserve 20% for outages, so I usually have roughly 8 kilowatt-hours available for evening use. That covers our refrigerator, lights, router, television, and kitchen appliances until bedtime.
The most noticeable difference is the bill. Before installing storage, my monthly bill averaged around $180 during summer. This year, with similar air-conditioning use, it has been closer to $105. The exact savings vary with cloudy weather, but avoiding those expensive peak-hour purchases makes the solar battery payback feel realistic. I am not claiming the battery erased my bill; the utility still charges connection fees, and winter production is weaker. Still, saving about $75 per month during the hottest season is meaningful for our budget.
I did have one minor scare in the first month. The monitoring app showed the battery at 100%, yet the house was drawing a small amount from the grid after sunset. I checked the settings and discovered the system was following a conservative backup schedule that blocked discharge during a short evening window. After changing the time-of-use profile, the battery began covering that load normally. I appreciated that the installer talked me through it instead of immediately sending someone out; the fix took five minutes.
For me, peak-hour savings matter more than flashy specifications, and this storage battery delivers.
