car inverter 12v to 220v

After six months with my home solar battery, the biggest difference has been how little electricity I buy during the expensive evening hours. My system is a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery connected to a 5 kW hybrid inverter, with six rooftop solar panels adding 2.7 kW of generation.

Before installing the battery, our solar power disappeared into the grid during the afternoon, then we paid full price between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Now the battery charges whenever the panels produce more than the house needs. Around sunset, it takes over automatically. I usually run the dishwasher, refrigerator, Wi-Fi equipment, lights, and television from stored solar energy instead of importing power.

My monthly bill used to average about $145 during summer. It has fallen to roughly $65, although weather and air-conditioning use still make a noticeable difference. The savings are not just theoretical; I can see the battery discharging during the evening on the monitoring app, and the grid-use graph stays nearly flat.

I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at its normal 30% reserve and remained at 48%. I initially thought the solar battery was faulty, but the installer explained that the update had reset a backup reserve setting. Changing that setting restored normal operation in a few minutes. I now check the app once a week rather than constantly watching it.

I also keep a small car inverter 12v to 220v in the garage for occasional camping and emergency phone charging, but it is completely separate from the home battery system. I would not connect random equipment directly to the battery terminals.

For me, the practical win is quiet, automatic peak-hour savings. I do not have to change our routine or remember to switch anything manually. The battery simply stores midday solar power and gives it back when electricity costs the most.
