I installed my home solar battery last summer after getting tired of buying expensive electricity during the evening peak. My system uses a 48V inverter, rooftop solar panels, and a 16-cell battery pack built around a lifepo 280ah shenzen basen battery. I chose that capacity mainly because I wanted enough stored energy to get through the night without making the installation unnecessarily large.

The biggest difference has been my evening electricity bill. Before adding energy storage, the solar panels produced plenty during the afternoon, but much of that power went back to the grid at a low credit rate. Around 5 p.m., I would start using grid electricity for cooking, lights, the refrigerator, and air conditioning. Now the battery charges from solar after lunch and powers most of those loads after sunset.

On a typical summer day, the battery reaches roughly 90 percent before dinner. By bedtime it is usually around 55 to 65 percent, depending on whether I run the air conditioner. I try not to discharge below 20 percent, so there is still a useful reserve overnight. Compared with my old bills, I am saving about $70 to $100 per month during the sunny season. The exact amount changes with weather and utility rates, but the improvement is obvious.

I did have one small troubleshooting moment. The battery monitor showed an unexpectedly low state of charge even though the inverter displayed normal voltage. I discovered that the current sensor clamp had been installed backward, so the monitor thought charging current was discharge current. After reversing it and recalibrating the battery management system, the readings made sense again.

The setup has not made me completely independent from the grid, but it has made my solar power much more useful. I check the battery app most mornings, and I appreciate seeing the house run quietly on stored solar energy during the expensive hours.
