I installed a 10-kWh home battery last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive electricity from the grid during our evening peak period. Before that, our solar panels produced plenty at lunchtime, but we still paid surprisingly high bills after sunset.
My life04 setup showed results from the first month. I set the battery to charge from rooftop solar and discharge between 4:30 and 9:00 p.m., when our utility rate is highest. On sunny days, the battery usually covered the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and most of our cooking. Instead of watching the meter climb while dinner was cooking, I saw very little grid usage. My average monthly bill dropped from about $186 to $104, although weather and habits naturally vary. That roughly $82 in savings each month feels more meaningful than the marketing estimates I had read.
One small troubleshooting moment taught me more than the installation brochures did. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging one evening and displayed a grid standby warning. I checked the app, confirmed the state of charge was 78%, and restarted the inverter through the manufacturer's instructions. The system resumed after about ten minutes, and I lost only a little peak energy that night. Since then, I keep automatic updates off during dinner hours and check the battery status once a week rather than obsessing over it daily.
For me, the biggest benefit is not energy independence in some abstract sense; it is the quieter feeling of using stored solar power when rates are punishing. The battery has also kept our essential loads running through two short outages, though backup power was never my main reason for buying it.
