After our rooftop solar panels went live, I expected the kanavano battery to quietly handle everything, and it mostly has. My main interest was peak-hour savings, because our utility charges jump sharply between four and nine in the evening. Before the battery, we often used grid electricity while cooking, running the heat pump, and charging an electric car. Now, the solar battery usually reaches full charge shortly after lunch. At around four, it automatically switches our house to stored energy. I can see the change in the monitoring app: instead of importing three or four kilowatt-hours during expensive hours, we import almost nothing unless the evening is unusually cloudy.
Our monthly bill fell from $180 in summer to about $105, although weather and rates vary. The difference is more noticeable than I expected because the battery also prevents bursts of grid use when the dryer or microwave starts. I am not claiming it eliminates the bill; connection fees remain, and winter solar production is weaker. Still, watching our evening consumption come from stored solar rather than the utility feels surprisingly satisfying.
The only hiccup happened during a firmware update. The app showed the battery offline for nearly twenty minutes, and I worried the backup function had failed. The inverter displayed status lights, so I waited instead of resetting anything. After the update finished, the connection returned and the battery resumed discharging that evening. I later learned that the system still powers essential circuits even when internet monitoring disappears, which is reassuring during outages.
I have kept the battery reserve setting at twenty percent rather than squeezing out every last kilowatt-hour. That cushion matters more to me than chasing a few extra cents of savings. For our household, this solar energy storage setup has made nighttime electricity predictable and cheaper.
