Before the battery, cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and using the heat pump after sunset regularly pushed us into the utility’s higher-rate window. I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the app reported that the battery was “offline,” even though the inverter was still operating. I power-cycled the communications gateway and waited about ten minutes; the status returned without needing a service visit. I now check the monitoring screen after updates.

For me, the storage battery is not about chasing energy independence or claiming zero bills. It is a fairly quiet appliance that makes solar power more useful, especially when the sun has gone down and utility prices have gone up.
