Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Using my solar battery after sunset has changed the way I think about electricity at home. Before installing it, I watched the inverter shut down as daylight faded, and then relied on expensive grid power for dinner, laundry, and heating. Now the battery usually carries us through the evening.
My setup is built around a huawei sun2000 5ktl inverter with a compatible lithium energy storage battery, installed last spring after getting tired of seeing solar production wasted during the day. The electrician mounted everything neatly beside the meter and spent most of the afternoon checking settings and explaining the monitoring app. Setup was not completely effortless: I had to move a shelf, and the first battery communication test failed. A power cycle and one firmware update fixed it, and it has been stable since.
The biggest practical benefit is peak-hour savings. I programmed the battery to charge from excess midday solar, then discharge between roughly 4:00 and 9:00 p.m., when our utility rate is highest. On sunny days, I often finish cooking, running the dishwasher, and charging phones without pulling much from the grid. My monthly bill dropped from around $180 to $105 on average, though winter is less impressive. That's roughly $75 saved over a typical month.
The app shows battery state of charge, solar generation, and household consumption clearly enough for me to spot unusual behavior. One evening, the battery stopped discharging at 62%. I initially assumed the system was broken, but the status message showed a grid backup reserve setting had been triggered. I had accidentally raised the reserve during a brief outage. Lowering it restored normal discharge immediately.
I am still learning how to balance backup power against daily savings. I keep a 30% reserve for stormy weather. That balance works well.
