Before storage, my utility bill jumped whenever we cooked dinner, ran the dishwasher, or used the heat pump after sunset. Now the battery charges from solar through the afternoon and carries those loads through the expensive hours. On sunny months, my bill fell from roughly $145 to $70. It is not magic; cloudy weeks still push me toward the grid, and the fixed connection fee never disappears. Still, the peak shaving is obvious when I compare daily usage in the utility app.
The most useful surprise has been how quietly it works. I set a 20% reserve for outages, and the inverter automatically prioritizes solar charging. During a brief firmware glitch in July, the battery stopped discharging at 6pm. I found the inverter showing a communication warning. Power cycling the battery disconnect and waiting five minutes cleared it, but I later tightened the CAN cable and updated the monitoring app. Since then, it has been stable.
I do check the state of charge every few days, especially before storms. The battery usually reaches 100% by midafternoon, then settles around 35% by breakfast. That pattern makes me more comfortable using an electric kettle, induction cooktop, and home office overnight without micromanaging anything.
For me, the value is predictable savings rather than impressive specifications. The lithium iron phosphate chemistry feels like a practical fit for cycling, and I appreciate seeing less grid power on my statement.
