On most evenings, I used to watch my electricity meter climb after dinner, especially when the heat pump, oven, and dishwasher were running together. Since adding a 10 kWh lithium solar battery, that anxious little ritual has mostly disappeared. My rooftop solar charges the battery during the afternoon, then the battery powers the house through the expensive evening tariff. I still buy some grid electricity on cloudy days, but the change is obvious on the monthly bill: our peak-hour usage has dropped from roughly 260 kWh to 80 kWh.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. The installer mounted the battery in our garage, near the inverter, and connected it to the existing solar array. I chose a wall-mounted unit with a simple app because I wanted useful information, not a complicated dashboard. On the first afternoon, it reached 100 percent by about 3:30 p.m.; the app showed solar generation, battery state of charge, and household consumption clearly. By 6 p.m., the battery had taken over nearly every load.
What impressed me most is how quietly it works. There is a soft click when the inverter changes modes, but no humming in the living room. During a recent three-day rainy spell, the battery reached only 42 percent, and I made a small mistake by scheduling the dishwasher for midnight. It started during the cheap tariff, drained the reserve, and left us buying power before breakfast. I changed the backup reserve from 20 to 35 percent and now keep that setting for winter.
Friends often ask me "how long can a lithium battery last" before capacity fades. I cannot promise a number, but our warranty is ten years, and the manufacturer rates it for daily cycling. After eight months, usable capacity still looks normal. That reassurance makes the investment easier.
