Every evening, when I get home, I glance at the energy app before turning on the kettle. Since installing my headway battery with our rooftop solar, that habit feels satisfying. During sunny days, the panels charge the battery by mid-afternoon, and I use that stored power after dinner instead of buying as much electricity from the grid.
The biggest difference shows up during peak-hour pricing. Before the solar battery went in, our evening usage pushed the bill higher, especially when the heat pump and oven ran together. Now I set the battery to discharge from 4:30 to 9:00, and I usually see the grid meter barely move during that window. It has not eliminated the bill—cloudy stretches still hurt production—but our monthly electricity cost has dropped by roughly a quarter compared with the same months last year. That feels more useful than a flashy app estimate because I can see the change on statements.
One minor hiccup happened after a firmware update. The battery stopped discharging overnight, even though the dashboard showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the backup reserve setting, restarted the inverter, and waited ten minutes. The system came back normally, but I learned to leave a reserve for outages and not assume a warning means a failed battery.
What I appreciate is the quiet routine: solar generation during the day, battery storage at night, and less dependence on peak grid rates. I still check state of charge before a storm and occasionally adjust the schedule, so this is not hands-off. Still, for a family home, the headway battery has made solar power feel practical rather than theoretical. I notice the savings most when several appliances run after sunset, because the battery supplies them without making me think about every kilowatt-hour. That everyday convenience, more than the technology itself, is what convinced me the investment was worthwhile.
