Solution Solar Battery
After six months of using a home solar battery, I have stopped thinking of it as an appliance and started treating it like part of the house. My setup is modest: 5.2kW rooftop solar, a 10kWh lithium battery, and a hybrid inverter. I also have a havells inverter on the backup circuit, which runs my router, lights, fridge, and one small fan during outages. The biggest difference has been using stored energy after sunset, not merely surviving power cuts.
Before installation, my evening electricity use was expensive because the utility peak period starts when everyone gets home. Now the battery charges mostly from rooftop generation during the afternoon and discharges between 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. On a typical weekday, I see roughly 7–8kWh supplied from storage instead of the grid. My bill has dropped by about ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 per month, although I still import electricity on cloudy days. That saving feels more convincing than a projected payback chart because I can see the lower peak-hour units on each bill.
A minor problem appeared in the second month. The battery stopped discharging at night, and the app showed “standby.” I first assumed the solar battery had failed, but the manual revealed the inverter had switched to backup-only mode after a brief voltage fluctuation. I changed the setting back to self-consumption, then restarted the system. It resumed within five minutes. Since then, I have kept that mode locked and enabled alerts for low state of charge.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, boring reliability. At 7:00 p.m., I can run the induction cooktop, washing machine, and television without watching the meter jump. During two short outages, the energy storage system carried the essentials automatically, although I avoid heavy loads like the water heater. I am considering adding another battery module
