Running my solar battery system for six months has changed how I think about electricity at home. The one annoying moment came during a cloudy week. The battery reached its low-voltage cutoff earlier than I expected, and the inverter began switching between battery and grid power. I initially suspected a faulty battery management system, but the monitoring screen showed that my reserve setting was 30 percent. With several gloomy days in a row, there simply was not enough solar input. I lowered the reserve to 15 percent, checked the battery temperature and cable connections, and watched it for two days. The switching stopped, and I left the reserve at 20 percent as a safer compromise.
What I appreciate most is the routine. I do not have to think about the lithium battery while cooking or charging my car; I just see fewer grid kilowatt-hours on the statement. For my household, that peak-hour savings matters more than having an energy dashboard.
