The biggest win is peak-hour savings. My utility charges substantially more from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., exactly when our household is busiest. I programmed the battery to discharge during that window, while keeping a small reserve for outages. Last month, my grid import during those hours fell by roughly 80%. The total bill dropped by about $42. That is not life-changing, but it is consistent and satisfying. On cloudy days, I still see some savings because the system prioritizes solar self-consumption instead of sending everything back to the grid.

I did have one frustrating troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, my monitoring app showed the battery at 100% for hours, even though the house was drawing power. I checked the inverter, then discovered the export limit setting had reset. The installer walked me through restoring it, and the battery immediately resumed normal charging and discharging. I also learned that the growatt single phase smart meter needs a stable connection to report import and export data accurately. When its signal drops, the app can look confusing even when the battery itself is working.

I have not expanded the system yet, but I left wall space for another battery. For now, the combination of rooftop panels, a hybrid inverter, and battery storage covers evening use. I still buy power in winter, so I am not pretending to be energy independent. Still, watching my meter slow down during peak hours feels like the investment is doing work, not just looking impressive on a specifications sheet.
