Running my home on solar changed once I added a battery storage system. I already had rooftop panels, but I was still buying expensive electricity in the evening when everyone was home, cooking, showering, and charging devices. The battery made the biggest difference during those peak-rate hours.
My setup uses a growatt on grid solar inverter LiFePO4 Battery combination with a 10 kWh battery bank. Installation took most of a day because the electrician had to tidy the existing wiring and add the backup connection. The monitoring app was fairly easy to understand, although I spent the first week checking it far too often. On sunny days, the panels now run the house and fill the battery by mid-afternoon. After sunset, the battery supplies power automatically instead of sending me straight back to the grid.
The savings are most noticeable on weekdays. Before adding energy storage, my evening usage pushed the bill up despite generating plenty of solar during the day. Now, the battery usually carries the house from dinner until around midnight. My monthly electricity bill has dropped by roughly 30–40%, depending on weather and air-conditioning use. I am not completely off-grid, but reducing peak-hour consumption has made the investment feel worthwhile.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. During a cloudy week, the battery stopped discharging at night and the app showed a standby warning. I checked the settings and found the reserve level had been set too high after a software update. Lowering the backup reserve restored normal operation immediately. Since then, I leave a 25% reserve for outages and let the system use the rest daily.
The quiet operation is another practical advantage. There is no noticeable noise indoors, and the lithium battery requires almost no attention. For me, solar battery storage is less about chasing energy independence and more about using my own solar power when my household actually needs it.
