I installed a 10 kWh LiFePO4 battery beside my garage, and the biggest change has been how ordinary evenings feel. Before it arrived, I watched the utility meter nervously after sunset, especially when the oven, heat pump, and water heater happened to run together. Now my rooftop solar charges the battery during the afternoon, and the inverter quietly supplies the house through the expensive evening hours. There is no dramatic moment, just a much calmer electricity bill.
My first full month was the clearest proof. I used to average about $210 in summer, with the worst usage between 4 and 9 p.m. After adding storage, that bill fell to $128, even though our air-conditioning habits barely changed. The battery usually reached 100 percent by midafternoon, then discharged to roughly 25 percent overnight. On cloudy days it did not perform miracles, but the solar battery still covered the short peak period and left the grid for the early morning. I also changed the inverter schedule once, telling it to prioritize solar charging instead of exporting every spare watt. That small setting made the savings noticeably better.
I did have one minor scare during the second month. The battery stopped discharging at 40 percent, even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the obvious things first: no error lights, normal temperatures, and a healthy connection between the inverter and battery. A support technician suggested rebooting the inverter and checking the minimum state-of-charge reserve. I had accidentally set that reserve too high while experimenting with backup settings. Lowering it to 20 percent fixed the issue immediately. Since then, I have left a 25 percent reserve for outages, which feels like a sensible compromise.
I even used a lifepo4 tester once, mostly for reassurance, because performance had not really declined.
