Solution Solar Battery
Replacing our generator with a home solar battery was about reducing evening grid use, not chasing total energy independence.
I installed a 10kWh LiFePO4 battery beside the inverter last spring. The electrician mounted it, connected the battery to our existing rooftop solar system, and added a CT clamp at the mains entry. The setup took most of a day because our wiring needed tidying, but the commissioning process was calm. The app showed battery voltage, state of charge, PV production, and household load immediately.
What has impressed me most is peak-hour bill savings. I programmed the hybrid inverter to charge from solar until late afternoon, then discharge from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. On a sunny day, the battery reaches 95% by lunch and carries the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and television through dinner. Our evening grid consumption fell by roughly 6–8 kWh. That changed our monthly bill more than I expected, during weather when time-of-use rates were expensive.
One scare happened after a firmware update. The battery stopped discharging for twenty minutes, although the app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the breaker, restarted the inverter, and contacted the installer. They explained that the system was recalibrating its state-of-charge reading. After half an hour it resumed normally, and I have not seen the issue again.
For anyone comparing storage options, I would pay close attention to monitoring and integration rather than just battery capacity. Mine is a growatt energy meter compatible LiFePO4 Battery, and the energy meter makes the consumption figures believable. I can see when solar power is charging the battery and when the house is using stored power. It has made our solar investment feel practical every day, not merely an emergency backup sitting in the garage.
