Running my solar battery after sunset has changed the way I think about electricity. My setup uses a 10 kWh lithium energy storage battery paired with rooftop panels and a growatt 3600mtl inverter. I installed the system mainly to avoid expensive evening power, and that has turned out to be the biggest benefit.
On sunny days, the battery reaches 95–100% by mid-afternoon. Instead of sending every spare watt back to the grid for a credit, I keep that energy for cooking, laundry, and the heat pump between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Before storage, those hours were when my meter seemed to spin fastest. Now the battery discharges steadily through the peak period, and my monthly bill has dropped by roughly 35–45%, depending on weather and how often we use the oven.
I noticed the difference during a rainy week last winter. Production was poor, so the battery did not fully recharge, but the system still covered the television, refrigerator, lights, and internet overnight. I bought grid power when we ran the clothes dryer and space heater together. That felt much better than relying on the utility during high-rate periods.
The only issue was a battery communication warning after a firmware update. The monitoring app showed the battery at zero even though the inverter display showed it was partly charged. I shut down the system in the proper order, waited minutes, and restarted it. The readings matched, and the warning disappeared. Since then, I check the battery state of charge rather than obsessively watching it.
For me, the value is not complete energy independence. It is predictable self-consumption, quieter evenings, and fewer peak-hour charges. I am considering adding a battery module eventually, but for now this energy storage setup covers the part of the day that used to cost me most.
