Running my evening loads from stored solar power has changed how I think about our electricity bill. I installed a Growatt 3500ES inverter with a lithium battery bank last spring, mainly to avoid buying expensive grid power after sunset. The setup was not completely plug-and-play. I spent an afternoon checking cable sizes, battery settings, and the inverter manual, then had an electrician inspect the final connections. Once the charge voltage and battery priority were configured correctly, the system became pleasantly boring.
The biggest difference shows up between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Before the battery, our cooking, lighting, television, and water pump all ran during peak hours. Now the solar battery carries most of that load. On a sunny day, the panels fill the battery by late afternoon, and I usually see the inverter drawing only a small amount from the grid while dinner is being prepared. Our monthly bill has dropped by roughly 30 to 40 percent, depending on weather and how much air conditioning we use. That saving feels more useful than watching a flashy production number during midday.
I did have one worrying moment. The battery stopped discharging one evening, even though its display showed plenty of stored energy. I eventually found that a battery communication cable had loosened slightly while I was organizing the wiring. After reconnecting it and restarting the system, discharge resumed normally. Since then, I have secured the cable and check the monitoring app every few days.
I am not completely energy independent, especially during several cloudy days, but the combination of solar panels, battery storage, and sensible load shifting works well for our home. The growatt 3500es has made peak-hour usage cheaper and quieter, and I appreciate having backup power for short outages without changing our daily routine. It matters daily here.
