Recently I installed a growatt 3 kw LiFePO4 Battery in my garage beside the inverter and solar charge controller. I had been tired of sending cheap daytime solar power back to the grid while buying it back at dinner time.
The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. The battery arrived well packed, and my electrician finished the wiring and settings in an afternoon. We set a conservative reserve of twenty percent, so I still have backup during outages without constantly worrying about draining it completely. My existing rooftop solar panels feed the battery first, then the house, with excess exported only after charging.
The biggest difference shows up after 4:00 p.m., when utility rates jump. Before the battery, my family would come home, turn on the oven, heat pump, washing machine, and lights, and watch the meter race. Now the stored solar energy carries most of that evening load. On sunny days, I often reach bedtime with 30% or more remaining. My monthly bill has dropped by roughly 25 to 35 percent, depending on weather and how often we cook at home. Not having to buy peak electricity feels more satisfying than the headline savings suggests, because I can actually see the solar power being used instead of wasted.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment during the first month. The battery stopped charging one afternoon even though the panels were producing. The monitoring app showed a communication warning, not a battery fault. I power cycled the Wi-Fi dongle, checked the cable, and restarted the inverter. Within ten minutes, charging resumed. It turned out my router had updated overnight. Since then, I have had no repeat, but that small scare taught me to check the app rather than assume the storage system is failing. That reassurance matters to me.
