Running my solar battery through the first full summer changed how I use electricity at home. I installed a growatt 2500 compatible LiFePO4 Battery beside my inverter after becoming tired of sending excess midday solar back to the grid for very little credit. My main goal was simple: store that energy and use it during the evening peak.
On sunny days, the battery usually reaches full charge by mid-afternoon. Once the solar panels stop producing much, the battery takes over for the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and occasionally the washing machine. I try to avoid running the electric oven at the same time because that can pull the battery down quickly, but normal evening use is covered surprisingly well. Before adding energy storage, my highest usage happened between 5 and 9 p.m. Now the grid meter barely moves during those hours.
My monthly bill dropped by roughly 30 to 40 percent compared with the same months last year. The exact saving varies with cloudy weather and heating use, but the difference is easy to see. I also like checking the battery monitoring app because it shows solar generation, battery state of charge, and household consumption in real time. It helped me discover that our old dehumidifier was using more power than I expected.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging overnight. The inverter showed a communication warning, although everything looked normal physically. I shut down the inverter and battery according to the manual, waited a few minutes, and restarted them in the correct order. Communication returned, and the battery resumed normal operation.
The biggest practical benefit is not feeling as dependent on peak electricity prices. This LiFePO4 battery is quiet, requires very little attention, and has made my solar system much more useful after sunset. I am considering adding another battery module before winter, mainly for extra backup capacity during outages and longer cloudy periods.
