Running my solar battery system has changed the way I use electricity, especially during the evening peak. I installed a growatt 15kw inverter with a 15kWh lithium battery last spring after watching my power bills climb despite having rooftop solar.
The setup was simpler than I expected. An installer mounted the battery in my garage, connected the hybrid inverter, and configured it to charge from excess daytime production. I chose a time-of-use schedule so the solar battery would discharge after 4 p.m., when my utility rate jumps. That one setting has made the biggest practical difference.
On sunny days, the battery usually reaches 100% before lunch. By dinner, it is powering the refrigerator, lights, router, and often my heat pump. Before storage, I regularly paid around $6 to $9 during the evening window. Now that portion is commonly under $2, and on particularly bright days my bill shows no peak usage at all. Across the first six months, my monthly electricity cost fell by roughly 35%, even though our household consumption stayed about the same. I am not claiming total energy independence; winter clouds still mean grid power fills the gap.
My only real hiccup happened during a humid week. The battery stopped discharging overnight, and the app showed a vague communication warning. I checked the breakers first, then restarted the inverter through its control panel. After about ten minutes, the battery resumed normal operation. Support later explained that the network connection had briefly dropped; no hardware replacement was needed. That experience reminded me that a home energy storage system still needs occasional attention, just like any other appliance.
Overall, I value predictable peak-hour savings more than marketing promises. I check the battery state of charge each morning, run laundry in daylight, and let storage handle expensive hours at home.
