Running my evening routine around solar power changed after I installed a growatt 10kw single phase inverter 48V Battery system last spring, to avoid buying expensive electricity after sunset.
The system sits in my garage, and the installation was less disruptive than I expected. An electrician added the inverter, battery cabinet, isolators, and monitoring dongle in one day, then walked me through the app.
I was particularly interested in peak-hour savings, because our utility charges much more from 4pm to 9pm. On a sunny day, the panels fill the battery by early afternoon, and the inverter automatically carries our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and television through dinner.
Before installation, I was spending roughly $180 a month during summer. Now, my bill is usually between $95 and $115, depending on air-conditioning use. The battery does not erase the bill—our fixed connection fee remains—but shifting consumption away from peak hours makes the difference.
On cloudy weeks, savings are smaller, yet the battery charges whenever the panels produce enough. I have learned to run the washing machine and dishwasher around lunchtime, leaving stored energy for cooking and evening loads.
The only troubleshooting moment happened during a storm. The monitoring app showed the battery at zero percent even though the house still had power. I checked the display and found the state-of-charge reading had frozen. A full shutdown and restart, following the manual, restored communication within a few minutes.
It turned out to be a loose network connection, not a battery failure. Since then, I have kept the inverter on a wired connection and have had no repeat issues.
After several months, the result is simple: I use more of my own solar energy, buy less grid electricity, and notice quieter evenings because the battery handles background loads most days.
