Running my home battery after sunset has changed the way I think about electricity. I had solar panels installed first, but I was still buying power from the grid during the expensive evening window. Adding a 10kWh lithium battery, controlled by a growatt 10kw 3 phase inverter, made the system feel much more useful.
The biggest difference shows up between 5 and 9 p.m. My battery charges from excess solar during the day, then covers cooking, lights, the television, and most of the dishwasher load after dinner. Before storage, those hours were when my electricity meter seemed to spin fastest. Now I usually reach bedtime without importing much energy. On sunny days, the battery gets me through the whole evening and sometimes still has 20 to 30 percent remaining in the morning. My monthly bill has dropped by roughly a third compared with the same season before installation. The exact saving changes with weather and our heating use, but avoiding peak-rate electricity is where I notice the value.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment during the first week. The battery stopped discharging at around 40 percent state of charge, even though the house was using power. I checked the monitoring app and found that the backup reserve had accidentally been set high. Lowering that reserve restored normal operation immediately. It was not a hardware fault, just a setting I had misunderstood, but it taught me to look at the battery settings before blaming the solar inverter.
The app lets me check solar production and grid import from my phone. I watch the numbers casually. For me, home energy storage is simple: I use more of my own solar power, buy less during peak hours, and feel less exposed to utility price increases. It has made solar investment more practical.
